Big Buddha – Chalong Temple – Put Jaw & Jui Tui Chinese Shrines

Price: 3,900 THB per person

Explore the diversity of Phuket’s Buddhist heritage and discover Phuket’s most interesting places of worship

Start your day early to avoid most of the crowds at the newly finished 45m high Big Buddha image – the largest in Thailand – which is located atop the Nakkerd hills and which is visible from the four corners of the island. This site has been chosen because it also offers stunning views of both the west and the east sides of the island.

After taking in such stunning vistas from great heights, you will descend back down to head to the Chalong Temple, the largest and most important Buddhist temple on Phuket. Chalong temple is a busy place with tourists and locals alike, who come to pray; light incenses or firecrackers to express their gratitude for answered prayers.

Then you will head to Phuket Town, the province capital, to follow the traces of the numerous Chinese immigrants and visit one of their Chinese temples.

On the way, you will stop in a little known small alley where a handful of vendors form the Amulet Market where hundreds of amulets made of metals included silver or gold are exchanged.

Then take a stroll along some of the streets of Old Phuket Town to reach the Put Jaw Shrine dedicated to the Chinese goddess of Mercy and the Jui Tui Shrine dedicated to the vegetarian god, Kiu Wong In – this shrine is famous for its “decision making” altar where you can ask yourself question to which the answer is simply yes or no and then toss 2 wooden blocks in the air and the answer to your question will depend on which way the two blocks land on the floor.

After having your fill of Buddhist peacefulness and having achieved some wonderful pictures, head back to our shop where some finger food will be served and you will be able to participate in a debriefing by the photographer who will review and comment your pictures.
